SLAM 4th day. not successful

This is the 4th day of SLAM.

From yesterday night to today, no change in water color. still green. CYA is almost 30. FC barely changed 12.5 to 12. CC is unchanged 0.5. Plus there are some milky stuff on the surface of the water, please see the picture I attached.

Can you please let me know what I am missing here and what is this milky stuff?

thank you.

What test kit are you using?

Is your pump and filter running?

The kit I use is Taylor K-2006. I trust this kit, since I've been using this for several years.

Actually you remind me something. the night before last, I changed from "filter" to "recirculation", since otherwise the flow will be blocked overnight. (I had this experience the 1st night of SLAM.) And I forgot to change it back to "filter" yesterday. So basically it is running on "recirculation" for the past 36hrs. Do you think that may cause the water color still green? (Actually the water is clear, not cloudy, but just green. So I thought recirculation will help kill the "green" algae first and when it is turning colorless, I would run the "filter" to filter them out. Does it make sense? This way I can save some D.E. plus the time & effort to change D.E. every several hours.)

Please let me know if this makes sense or totally wrong.

thank you.

Filtering will get the white milky stuff off the surface.

You have to filter the stuff out sooner or later. Filtering should clear up the cloudiness and let you see where you really are.

If your water is clear, but green, then you may have a metals issue. Does your fill water have iron in it? Have you used copper based products in the past?

What state or country is Setauket in?

There is no metal in there. I went to the local pool store to test the water once (just to double check my test result and confirm). and there is no metal in there. The water is one year new. (I changed the all liner last year. ) since then, never used any copper based products. Setauket is in Suffolk county, long island, NY.

Now I have my filter running. hope to see some improvement today.

thank you.

Actually the milky stuff is on the surface of the water and cannot be sucked into the filter. Instead, it will block the closest skimmer. In other words, if I open the closest skimmer, a thick layer of milky foam on top of the surface. I have to scoop them out with a plastic cup. Then I can see more milky stuff flowing into this skimmer again. It is not like cloudy stuff in the water, rather only on the surface.

thanks.

Are you confident in that CYA of 30 measurement? If so, then just stay the course. It will clear eventually.
