Skimmer or Main Drain

What is better to have run for the 8 hours each night? On the valve I can have the skimmer on or the main drain on. Or is it better to just put it in the middle for both?

I would shoot for 80% skimmer. More important to capture the debris on the surface.

Skimmer. A pool surface accumulates much debris.

I'm with Jason.. Either all skimmer or skimmer and only 5 or 10% main drain.

If you have a LOT of debris, you may not want the skimmer on as much. If the debris occludes the skimmer then you can cavitate the pump. If the skimmer continues to flow you will be fine. But if your skimmer might stop up before you are able to dump it, you may have to put more flow on the main drain. Depends on the amount of surface trash / leaves.
