I saw a post earlier this morning mentioning using a skimmer in addition to the factory drains on an Intex-type pool and then came across the YouTube video below. When I installed our skimmer on our 12' AGP I plugged off the factory drains and only used the skimmer. Should I keep the side outlets in the system like this guy did? I understand what he says about "why" and how he can choose which to use when. Is there any reason not to just use the skimmer?

It’s totally up to you. I put a valve on one of mine and then partially closed the valve. I liked that because I was doing a lot of traveling and worried about the water level getting low enough to harm the pump. It also helped me to control the water flow when connecting the Intex robot, which connects to the return and needs strong flow to work properly.
Oh! Come to think of it that might make it easier to get the vacuum hose on if you could momentarily disable the skimmer instead of having to do the quick-as-a-ninja pop it on move.
