Skimmer flaps

I have 2 skimmers: For number 1 the flap gets stuck (luckily in a fairly low position so it doesn't block water flow but makes it fairly ineffective) and number 2 lost the flap - one of the wholes isn't deep enough so it keeps getting lose (I think when the pool was build concrete got in there.
I am not a big fan of the flapping sound when in the pool and the pumps are off or running with a low RPM. I saw skimmer baskets which don't require skimmer flaps but they got mixed reviews. Is anyone here on the forum using these baskets or has alternative solutions which don't require the flaps? If flaps are the best solution I guess I need to figure out a way to repair them...

Isn't the many reason for the flaps to keep the debris from going from the skimmer area to the pool when the pool is shut off? If you don't shut off your pump then do you need one? Or if you always try to empty the skimmer before the pump shuts off.

Mine wouldn't stay on either as the cylindrical area on the weir seemed to be a bit worn down. I was able to stretch it a bit after heating up the plastic.

Google "floating pool weir." Never a big fan, but some love them
