My skimmer door isn't flapping open & closed. It stays open & water fills into the skimmer area. I could've sworn the door opened & closed. I'm taking care of the pool by myself this year, the first time ever and it's hard!

It is likely your water level is too low. The water level should be 1/2 way up the skimmer mouth opening.

Water is supposed to fill the skimmer area. The door should always be open and floating at the water level.
