Skimmer doesn't seem to be pulling anything?

I just got in this skimmer. I connected it to 1 of the 2 output pumps which go to the filter.

It doesn't seem to be pulling anything into it. I watched a few bugs float over it, and even put my hand over it but nothing feels like it's being pulled under into it.

Any ideas what could cause that? The pump is definitely running fine, as the pool is clear and I can see the SWG working.

Personally, I believe I did everything correctly, but I don't see the "swirling" I would assume to see on a skimmer?

You don’t see a swirl if the water is high enough. I only get the swirl when my level drops due to backwashing or vacuuming to waste.

Here's what I did. You may have to block off the second port. The skimmer was designed many years ago and in the interim the "safety standard" changed and having only one inlet to the pump is considered a safety hazard.

Also, consider using a steel C-clamp over the plastic clamp. The latter ain't gonna last. Use the plastic clamp to lightly hold the position and the steel one to do the actual holding.
