SIZING POOL FILTER

Reading lots of different websites and various threads here. Our pool is 51 x 26 gunite which includes an 11 x 26 tanning ledge with 4 bubblers. Shallow end 3'6 deep end 7'6. I did some of the calculators and so on. I came up with somewhere between 39,000 and 46000 gallons. The difference not knowing how to factor the tanning ledge. We are using Hayward and will go with a DE filter. The PB is giving us the Hayward 4820. Based on my calculations it seems like it might be better to go with the 6020. I know it doesn't hurt to slightly oversize the filter but not the pump. Any feedback appreciated.

Upgrade to the 6020. You will get more time between cleanings with a larger filter.

No, there is no overkill for filter size.

It will just go through more DE.

I believe the saying goes as don’t oversize the pump too much.

You might not want to oversize a single speed pump, but it is almost impossible to oversize a VS pump.
