We're finalizing our pool design, and I'm having a hard time deciding how big our shallow end should be. I have 3 active boys who love to play in the pool, and I've read conflicting opinions about the value of a large shallow end vs. the value of a large deep end.

Our pool is 18x30 L-shape, with a 7 foot deep end (no diving). the tanning ledge takes up the "L" and is 8x8. Two design options I've been shown are 11' shallow end and 16' shallow end. The 16' shallow end obviously has a very steep slope into the deep end, so that concerns me too.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Normally pool builders will use a slope standard for the transition between the shallow end and deep end. Keep in mind your kids will grow, fast. 7 foot isn't that deep so you'll have a gentle transition.
