Hi,

I have a pretty simple setup - 16x32 vinyl liner pool with 2 skimmers/main drains, a variable speed pump (Pentair) with Hayward SWG and HeatPump Pro - HeatPro Heat Pump | Heaters | In Ground Pool Heaters - Hayward Pool Products. I don't really need an automation system as I have full scheduling capability on my VSP, and my one pool light is connected to a GE Smart Switch which connects to my Smart Home system so I can schedule the light on/off, etc. My heater has a temperature control on it and will automatically shut down when the pool reaches the desired temp BUT my kids are continually turning it on higher than I would like at night and forgetting to set the temp back. They have been informed that future infractions will mean they get charged for the overnight usage (they are teenagers), but I was thinking it would be nice to have a system connected to the heater that would automatically turn it on/off at the times I schedule. Controlling the temperature remotely as well would be a nice to have but not really necessary.

Perhaps I can connect the power to another smart switch like my pool light (would have to check the wiring on the heatpump pro - i think there is a remote switch option). Anyone have familiarity with this or another simple/cost effective solution they can recommend?

Thank you.

You have the round HeatPro or the square model?

You can use the Firemans switch connected to a relay to turn the heater on and off. You don't switch any power on the heater. The relay just opens and closes the circuit.

That way you don't need to mess with the actual heater electrical line.

Yep, thanks @ajw22, I should have clarified. The instructions quoted on page 11 are for the fireman's switch connection. He can use a wi-fi smart switch as the relay.
