Hi - I know my question may sound silly, but since I do it all myself I want to make sure I have the electricity part right. I was thinking of cleaning my salt cell (pool has been in roughly a year). The video said to turn off the main power. So, when I open my panel box, there are breakers labeled, "Pool Pump/Booster Pump", "Heater/Heater", "Jets/Blower", "Lights", and "Panel". Do I turn them all off? Or do, I just turn the "Pool Pump/Booster Pump" off? Also, do I need to put it in "Time Out" before I do this?

Thanks,
LaDonna

10s,

Do you have an automation system like say an EasyTouch panel? If so, you just put it in the Service mode which shuts off the power to the cell.

Otherwise, I'd turn off Pool pump first and see if all the lights on the cell go off. If not, I'd just keep flipping the breakers until I found the right one.

What keeps your cell from getting power when the pump is not running? If the cell gets power when the pump is not running, it can actually explode. Does not happen a lot, but does happen. Does your cell have a time clock
Edit.. I just realized that you have automation. Just put the system into the Service mode.

Thanks,

Jim R.

You do not want to have the main pool come on while the SWCG is removed and you do not want the cell to turn on if the automation has the pump scheduled to turn on. If you put the automation in service mode and also switch off the circuit breaker the system will not turn on automatically.

There’s no reason to clean the cell if it’s not visibly scaling up. Cleaning with acid reduces its lifespan so don’t do it unless it’s necessary. I’ve had my cell 3 years and it hasn’t needed cleaning yet.
