I have a 25,000 gallon outdoor pool that is supposed to be a chlorine pool. I say supposed to be because according to my test strips, I have a measurable amount of bromine in the pool, equal to the amount of free chlorine in the pool. Free chlorine is normal, total chlorine is slightly high.
I have no idea how to get rid of the bromine, nor even where it came from (it was never set up as a bromine pool), and I do know that I have never used it as a sanitizer. All the sanitizer tablets and shock I use is chlorine based. Though, I am not the original owner, so I have no idea if the previous owner ever made that mistake, even though the sanitizer that was left over from them was chlorine based as well.
Regardless, the bromine is there, and even using a chlorine based shock increases the bromine just as much as the free chlorine.
Is there any way to get rid of it without draining the pool? I'm concerned about damaging the vinyl liner if I do that.
