Shotcrete Concerns

Hi All,

New to the forum. Thanks for all the great insight.

The pool builder finished the shotcrete yesterday (or gunnite? I don't really know the difference). We are building an 18x40' pool with an 8' deep end. The re-bar and plumbing was already in place.

They started late Friday afternoon and got maybe halfway done. Temps were in the low 40s when they did the work. They put some plastic sheeting over the pool and then put a propane heater under the plastic overnight. Temps got down into the mid-20s. Then on Saturday they finished the work. Temps were in the high 40s. The forecast for Saturday night was for lows in the mid-20s with rain and snow. They again put some plastic sheeting over the pool and said they would put the heater back under the plastic. Unfortunately when I checked on things Sunday morning the plastic sheeting had collapsed and an approximately 18"x18" hole developed in the bottom of the pool where all the water that had collected on the plastic sheeting poured in where the sheeting collapsed.

I'm obviously worried about the hole. I'm also worried that the heater/plastic sheeting didn't keep temps warm enough for proper curing due to the huge gape in the sheeting. I put my hand on the pool at the edge Sunday morning and it wasn't warm.

Any thoughts on the low temperatures? I'm not sure what mix adjustments or other modifications they may have done for the cold temps.

What can be done about the hole in the bottom of the pool? There's a fair amount of water in the pool, but there's also water in the hole which will likely freeze/expand tonight with lows in the mid-20s again.

I did text the pool builder, but haven't heard anything back yet (it's Sunday).

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

PB said he thinks the hole may be "hydrostatic relief". They outsource the gunnite to another vendor so he wasn't sure.

Two days out from finishing the gunnite. No blankets. No heaters. No spraying with water. Temps still in the 20s overnight. PB apparently doesn't seem to think any of that is necessary.
