Shopping list for pool supply. First time pool person

Lots of pine trees close by?? I would add skimmer socks (or hairnets) to your list asap.

Don't go to the pool store... All you need is Chlorine & CYA (stabilizer). Muriatic Acid and Borax to manage PH on a periodic basis as needed.

Get your test kit (TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C). We recommend the TF100 from TFTestKits.net or the Taylor K-2006C. It's not at the pool store. The TF-100 has the FAS/DPD where you can test for your pH. LC you can get at Walmart (10%). Once you get your test kit, post your numbers here. You should test for:

FC - Free Chlorine
CC - Combined Chlorine
PH - Acidity/Basicity
TA - Total Alkalinity
CH - Calcium Hardness
CYA - Cyanuric Acid

I'm going to the pool supply store today. First time entering this kind of business. I am starting a list of what to get:

1. TF 100 test kit
2. pH meter
3. liquid chlorine
4. new brush

How much chlorine should I buy?
Anything else I should look at?

Thanks!

Where can I get CYA, Muriatic acid and Borax?

In San Francisco it is doubtful you will need borax.

CYA, Liquid Chlorine, and muriatic acid. Get two bottles of CYA powder ( you will not need it all but it stores forever), 5 gallons of Liquid Chlorine, and one gallon of MA.

That is a start. Is this a fresh fill?

Take care.
