Sheer descent water feature build - support questions

Hi all,

We are in the final stages of an in-ground gunite pool build and the pool guys did plumbing for a water feature (three 2” pipes). But now that the builder is getting ready pour concrete for the walls, questions arise about how to support the stone top of the feature in the areas above the PVC baffles (CMP natural wonders). We are thinking a 4’ baffle the middle and 2’ baffle on each side as shown on the diagram. The reason for the turns is because there was some confusion on the design (pool guys had old plans) when the pool was poured.

Any tips on how the support above the baffles is accomplished? We were hoping to use 24”x24” cap stone, but could look for solid slabs if needed, or …? I found some old threads on the topic, but no solid answers that I could find. I’ve attached an image of basically what we’re trying to accomplish. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Can you post pics of what your current situation is?

Sorry for the late reply, I personally haven’t had to deal with this issue myself, typically the plumbing is incased in the Shotcrete and any top cap is placed on that.
Thank you for the reply. Is this typically done at the time when Shotcrete for pool is being done? We’re past that point now, but just curious. The current plan is poured concrete with rebar with enough space between baffles for rebar and concrete and then trying to find a solid piece for the top, but not clear when we’re going to be able to get this done so may delay finishing of the pool since we’re running out of time to get plaster completed before it gets too cold. Thanks again

Yes this is typically incased in the Shotcrete, the plumbing would have been in place prior to Shotcrete at the correct location so the installation of the baffles could be completed at a later time.
Your installation plan should work, prep work of the area prior to concrete is vitally important, making sure that the surface area is properly cleaned, rough and surface saturated dry will help ensure its longevity.
Also, the rebar needs to be properly epoxied into place, this is what the inspectors require in my area.IMG_5997.png

Thanks for the info on the anchoring epoxy - that’s helpful. The pipes are in place within the shotcrete pool shell (pics attached in this thread). Now we’re just looking at how to do walls and the top. The other aspect of this is that I think they’re going to anchor into the pool shell but not the concrete pad behind or may anchor into pad behind and not pool shell. It sounds like could go either way as long as not both? Thank you
