Pool is 30 years old. Several problems have reached a head recently that make me want to rebuild a big portion of the plumbing in the equipment area. Pictures are in this album. I'm numbering the problems in case you want to refer to them in your replies.
- I replaced the filter pump lid a few weeks ago, and it is now in a position that I cannot loosen it. For the entire time I've owned it, it has lied between the salt cell and the filter without enough clearance for the lid tool to swing around. I want to move the salt cell further back, next to the filter pump motor, to give the lid room.
- I don't use the booster pump any more. I want to remove it and the pipes connected to it, but leave the vertical sections that enter the ground (capped off) in case someone (me or a future owner) wants to bring it back later.
- The tablet chlorine feeder (Pentair Rainbow 320) is after the return valve, meaning it does not work if water is returned to the spa only. I recently resurfaced the pool, and the builder suggested I replace the feeder because it is old. Do I need to replace it, or can it be repaired? I want to move it before the return valve. Will I need to install a check valve, or is the one inside sufficient?
- The Hayward Vari-Flo multi-port valve has become very hard to turn. How long do these things last? Do I need to clean or lubricate it? Should I replace it?
- There is a pinhole leak immediately after the MPV port heading to the heater. Can it be sealed without cutting the pipe?
- The Jandy "NeverLube" suction and return valves are old, but I think they work quite well. How long are they supposed to last? Can I leave them alone?
- There's a strange gray fitting on one of the pool return lines. It is lableled "Ortega // Purex Pool Equipment", and Google suggests it is a check valve. Why is it there? Why isn't it placed before both pool return lines?
