Hello to All, I'm new to the trouble-free -pool blog.
I'm interested in circa 1975 Anthony Apollo maintenance and the tips that go with the topic.
I've got the Sta-Rite CFA pump, Anthony Apollo VA-38 filter (yep that is 18" diameter), Anthony Apollo 1 1/2 inch backflush.
No plastic parts, all brass which is cool.

When you see the price of replacement parts, you will quickly decide to replace the system.
That old, open-faced impeller pump is very likely completely worn out. The volute gets large, concentric, scratches and becomes very inefficient. An impeller alone is near $200.00 retail, the front housing (volute) is no longer available. The bracket that connects the motor to the volute is about $450.00. The stub shaft, the part that connects the motor to the impeller is over $100.00. These are all bronze parts.
You can replace the O rings in the backwash valve inexpensively and be sure to use silicone grease on them.
The internal filter parts are still available except the spacers between the grids, so don't lose them. Again, when you see the prices you may decide that a new filter is in order.
