Screenlogic2 Protocol Adapter Troubleshooting

I have a ScreenLogic2 Protocol Adapter that stopped working in fall of last year.

When 4 serial wires are connected to intellitouch i5+3 the red power led is illuminated. When I plug Ethernet cable in, I do not get an IP address. Also as soon as I plug in Ethernet cable, I get a single solid yellow led (ie no flashing and second Ethernet led never illuminates). I have opened adapter and replaced battery and performed reset but get the same results.
No idea if this is a result of storm/surge. No apparent electrical damage when inspected.

I have searched and seen lots of threads of things to try, such as connecting directly with a laptop, changing ip range on router etc. One question when doing this should unit be powered with 4 wires from intellitouch?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Follow up to post above. As soon as the 4 serial com wires are connected red led on front illuminates and the ethernet activity led on the left lights up solid yellow. Just to clarify this is when no ethernet cable is connected. When ethernet cable is connected the yellow led just stays solid.

S,

The Protocol Adapter gets its power from the 4-wire cable that connects to either the EasyTouch, or the inside wireless link.

On the back of the Adapter there are two small Ethernet lights. The left one, on my adapter, is yellow and blinks. The right one is always solid green.

I did not unplug my Ethernet cable, but if I did, I suspect the left light would have gone out or quit blinking.

Let's see if Tom has any inputs.. Calling @ogdento

Thanks,

Jim R.

mine operates similarly to Jim's... the yellow light is the blinking activity light and green is solid when it's connected to ethernet.

when you open up the unit, the top board (where the green serial port connector goes) has a 14-pin chip in the top right... does that look ok? any burn marks?

if the hardware is undamaged, it could just be that the firmware got munged (although i don't think that would explain the odd ethernet status led behavior)... it may be worth reaching out to pentair and seeing if they can do a session with you to try and revive it.
