Scale tec and chlorine level

The directions say lower chlorine to 1 - 3. The pool is about 15, I shocked before slowing it all down for winter. Salt gen is turned off. Might be awhile before it drops to a level that low.

Is it that important to wait until it’s that low…?

My builder suggest trying it. The dark spot appeared and said that the lighter color could be calcium and that it’s coming off revealing the original dark color of the plaster. The pool less than a year and I thought the light color could be plaster dust.
