Sanity check post inspection

Hi all , getting a long list of suggestions from inspector and am a bit confused on what to do.

Context:

- we have a broken heater
- the connected spa has a weak motor and is leaking
- the plaster is old and can be prickly
- pipes and valves are old but working

Questions:

- inspector mentioned it may not be worth it to replace heater and that we should just use a blanket. How much of a hassle is this to take on and off? Will this really help? It gets really hot here for 4 months (90 degrees and above) and fairly warm weather for another 2-3 (75 or so?). We do want to dip in and out and use the pool at least a few times during the week and occasional parties we’ll host. We also have an infant who we will want to teach how to swim soon.

- also mentioned it may not be worth it to save the spa, especially if it requires new and more power motor, fixing the leak and getting heater. We’re ok not having a spa, and have it just be a kiddie swim pool. Is it worth it to fix up or should we just get a separate hot tub if we really needed that experience?

- is it worth replacing the electrical and modernize it? How much of a headache saver is it to be able to turn everything on with your phone?

Thanks everyone for your help!!!

Welcome to TFP! So here are some initial thoughts:
- Pool/spa parts eventually go bad. It just happens.
- A heater is not a "must have" item if you aren't worried about heating water. You can probably wait.
- A pump/motor is a must have to circulate water to the pool and/or spa, mix chemicals, and vacuum.
- Often times owners can do the parts swap as a weekend DIY project if mechanically inclined.
- A rough texture to the pool or spa walls could be calcium scale from months/years of poor water chemistry.

Post some pics of everything you have and be sure to update your signature. We'll be glad to give you more advice.
