Sand in pool

Swanton, Oh
Hi - we have sand coming into our pool. We have a Hayward s200. We removed the sand and tried to check out the laterals and the sand pipe. There doesn’t appear to be enough room to unscrew and remove the laterals and really inspect them / or replace if needed. Is it better to just replace the whole unit? (Sand pipe and laterals?) thank you! Any help on this is appreciated!

Good morning and welcome! No need to replace the entire unit, but you do have to get those laterals and center pipe out. Some laterals fold "up" from where they are connected at the bottom hub assembly of the center pipe. Is this for a top mount multiport valve (MPV)? If so, remove the MPV, then the sand (save it for later use), then you should be able to get to those laterals to carefully lift the entire unit out of the filter body.

Good morning! Thank you! We did remove all the sand - rookie mistake, we thought maybe the sand was old so we replaced it, but still have sand in the pool.

We did investigate all the laterals - they didn’t fold up, they unscrew, however hit the side of the canister. I’ll be removing the “new” sand today to access the laterals again….
