Never seen sand filter pressure gauge exceed 10 psi. Randomly looked at it while running today, was 40 psi. Immediately backflushed for several minutes. Won’t go below 40. I purged air valve near gauge, won’t go below 40. Any chance the gauge is fried? Hard to believe i built that much pressure???

Does the gauge read 0 when you turn the pump off?

Yup, replace the gauge.

Your signature does not say what model filter you have. Done have a standard psi gauge and some use a proprietary gauge.

Many gauges go 0-60 psi yet filters never go above 30. A 0-30 psi gauge is easier to read.
