Salt pool only runs through filter on high. had a clog; now it doesn’t. Its a variable speed, but the water wont run through the filter on lower speed

And this:

When running on full speed, does the pump fully prime so there is no air in the pump basket?

Yes, after I got home and it had shut off for who knows what reason, it started at the 1200 and it wouldn't fill, i put it on high to get it to. On full blast for hours it should be getting this green out somewhat, it is not. Added all the chemicals needed.

Again, a pump should not lose prime when shut off. That means you have an air leak. And as I said before it will not prime at 1200 RPM. Turn the pump on to high speed and look at the pump basket and make sure it fully fills without any air left.

A filter should not be used to remove live algae. Are you following the SLAM Process?

I know a filter turns green when pool is green from my last house of 12 years with a larger pool. I am not pool person to follow all that LOL. I do know my pump is getting shut off and isn't running properly unless it is on high and then it is still iffy.

We can't really help you unless you are willing to help us. Remember we are not there to witness things.

These types of issues are difficult to troubleshoot through the forum so if you are willing to cooperate and try our suggestions, only then can we be of some assistance.

The quickest and easiest way to clear algae is with the SLAM Process. It is actually a very simple process but does require a lot of chlorine.

The reason the pool is green because you do not have enough FC relative to CYA. That may be due to the SWG not running but when that happens, you should be using liquid chlorine as a substitute to get the FC level up as quickly as possible. Temporarily, you could run the pump at full speed so the SWG is working but you will still need liquid chlorine to get rid of the algae.

Hear are some very important links you should read immediately:

SLAM Process - Have you looked at this link at all?
FC/CYA Levels - This link shows the relationship between FC and CYA

Do you have a test kit? If so, which one?

I would consider removing the cartridge from the filter. Then run the pump on high speed. You should see full flow through the pump and if you stick your hand in front of a jet, you should feel a strong flow coming out. If you are not feeling any flow or only light flow, then there could still be a clog somewhere in the pipes.

Sheila, please heed the advice from this forum. This is not a quick and dirty fix for you. You first need to try flushing out the suction line from the pump back to the pool as suggested. Then, if that gets cleared or if nothing comes out then you may not have a plugged line any longer. You don't know how it was or what was "unclogged" before? You might not even have a clog now since you said the pump basket will prime on high speed. Just run the pump at high speed, follow the suggestion to remove the cartridges and see how the flow is. If it's strong then there probably isn't any clog now. In that case your job is to follow the SLAM steps to clear your water. Whatever you used to do on your old pool isn't relevant right now. Let us help you with this pool and then you can decide if your old way or our new way is best for you.
