Safety cover during summer vacation: SWG adjustment ?

Hello. We have decided to put our safety cover on during a 12 day vacation, its a high density mesh and darker in color (if that matters). Our water level is good, chemistry is good, CYA is 70, FC is ~6 when my SWG is around 40%. These numbers are without a solar cover during hot sunny summer days. My new VSP (need to update my signature) runs most of the day. I was thinking of cheating the SWG up to 50% during the trip, and turning the skimmer off and just pulling from the main drains. Solid plan? Should I add some liquid pool shock before putting the cover on? I am not sure what impact the cover will have, I assume it will hold FC better as its sheilded from the sun. Just looking for any guidance people have. Thanks in advance!

Sir, what is the result you are looking for when you return from the 12 day vacation? Are you surrounded by trees and don’t have anyone to empty the skimmers if they get full?

You have a SWG so a drop in FC isn’t your concern? What are you looking to do?

Thank you for your reply. Just want to maintain FC during the trip, or minimally not drop below critical levels. Rather be on the safe side. Not looking to jump in on day 1 of the return, I can let extra FC burn off. I guess my question is, what is the impact of adding the safety cover and is a SWG % adjustment recommended.

Yes we have trees, but we also have a dog and its for the dog's safety while we are gone. I don't want that burden on the people watching him.

Road test the cover a couple of days before your trip. Then you'll know about what daily loss to expect. Start at high target and set the SWG to produce just a little more than you need and you'll have 20 ppm or so wiggle room to SLAM. Aim to produce 0.5 FC more than you need. If it makes +1, so be it and you're still good.
