RX Clear 525 Quad Cartridge Filter

Anyone have any opinions on the RX Clear quad cartridge filters? I have an old Pentair 60sqft DE filter that I need to replace because the fiberglass shell is on it's last legs. I want to switch over to a cartridge filter just for ease of maintenance and I saw that the RX Clear filters are about half as much as the Waterway Crystal Water filters. I haven't been able to find too many opinions or reviews on the RX Clear filter so I'm hesitant to get it.

From the pictures online this seems to be the closest video I can find going over the filter. It is labeled as a Aqua Genie but everything looks the same as the RX Clear.

Some members switched when costs became exorbitant and they appear to be holding as well as the flagship brands. Xtremepower and Waterway are two comparable others.

P,

I am a huge fan of large cartridge filters.. I just got rid of my last DE filter about a week ago... :goodjob:

It looks pretty much like a Waterway...

I have no feedback on the RX version, but... What can possibility go wrong with a large cartridge filter..

Might want to double check the size of the cartridges and make sure you don't have to buy them from RX.

Keep in mind that the Inlet and Outlet are generally reversed, so replacing a DE filter is not 'plug and play'..

Thanks,

Jim R.

That sounds good I will definitely look into the cartridge sizes to make sure they aren't some kind of proprietary size that will be difficult to get replacements for.

The inlet looks to be on the bottom of the RX version which is the same as my Pentair filter currently. I plan on redoing a lot of the piping anyway because for some reason the old piping goes from 2" off the pump then reduces down to 1.5" and then back up to 2" to go into the filter.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

P,

Just to make sure...

Cartridge filters do not use any kind of backwash or Multiport valves...

That said, it is a good idea to plumb in a 3-way valve between the pump and the filter. This gives you the ability to open the pump lid without filter draining down and out the open pump lid. If you make it a 3-way valve, you can use it to dump water to waste as well.

The Inlet on the bottom seems like a good move by RX..

Thanks,

Jim R.

+1 to the drain valve. It's super handy at times like when there's heavy debris in the spring or after a storm for vac to waste.
