Well, bad times....
Heading over the mountain from SC to GA, heading to SC the F-250 began to smoke. I was at work, the wife was driving. By the time she reached NC lots of smoke.
I got there to find diesel dripping out of the muffler and tailpipe. Towed to the shop,this morning. Less tan 100 psi compression on #5, so time for a new engine. Parts & labor using a long block from a great company will put us at about $7,000. Parts that I'll want to change while it's apart are probably anouther $2,000.....
No towing the camper for a while.

I feel for you. Those oil burners are fine until something lets go.
I puked #4 while towing the RV once, and it's no fun finding someone to tow both the truck and the RV in the middle of nowhere. Luckily we found an RV dealer close that came and towed the RV to their onsite campground and we could stay in it. And, luckily it didn't take long to get the truck back in operation.
The real cost of that little episode was the new RV the DW found at the dealership!

I told my wife when we were shopping that if I ran an RV dealership I'd do anything it took to get existing owners to stop in while they were on the road. Locate near a major interstate with easy access in and out. RV friendly fuel station nearby or on my lot. Variety of restaurants within walking distance of my free RV parking area. Free dump station, fast service, cheap or free overnight camping, bargain supplies. Whatever it takes to get them there to see my inventory.

Well, we are finally back home.... The F-250, it's sitting lonely in the mountains of NC.
