Hey everyone,
It's been a while since I have posted, but I had a bit of a mishap that actually works a bit in my favor. Opened up the pool for cycling and filtration about a week too early and ended up that we had a hard freeze and I blew a pipe. Consequently, I also lost 2/3 of my water in the pool. This is a blessing in disguise as it allows me to see that the haze and cloudiness issues I was experiencing last year is due to paint that has been scaling and separating from the surface of the gunite. I have been looking into a product called Rebound, which can be found here: Rebound Pools but it will be about 2 years before I can make the investment to surface the entire pool surface in it. In the meantime I need to get a paint that is non-water permeable, safe for gunite, safe for swimming and that is affordable. I just need to have it hold up strong for 2-3 years while I save for the Rebound surfacing. I will be doing the work myself, so something I can get at a local hardware store or order easily online would be great. The surface area is roughly 1,500 sq ft that I will need to cover. I am going do a light sand blast to the inside of the pool and then will surface sand the remaining existing paint. After that I plan on acid washing the walls and bowl of the pool as there is some previous algae buildup on the surface where the paint has peeled away. At this point of work completion though I am unsure of the product to use to ensure that I do not have any leaks into the gunite surface and that will be enjoyable to swim in for the next few years. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, I will be posting pictures along the way so everyone can see the improvements from the feedback.
