Rusted skimmer

Going to start the drain today as soon as I get home. I'm leaving the top rails on til I get the floor done and then hopefully removing the top rails n setting the liner on Saturday. Supposed to be 70°.

Casey, I would also run some rope from the top rails to the ground to a stake as well as a couple to the deck to be on the safe side from wind damage.

Do you have a long trowel or a good, straight 2x4 to help smooth the floor?

How are you feeling?

I'm going to use a flat shovel for the floor to knock the high peaks down. I'm not looking for perfection. My foot is sore. I can't get down on my hands n knees n do trowel work. It'll take all I have to just tape the insulation boards together. I'm going to double check the weather here in a bit before I put the pump in.

On the outside I did. I have to buy another can of paint to make it look prettier. It's a brown color right now. I still have rust on the inside to contend with. Cant do that until I remove the liner, hopefully tomorrow after work. I have a question though. I just got a Hayward Perflex EC50 DE Filter. It's got a spring and a nut on it. Do I remove the nut all the way or do I just take it to the end? Not sure if it's going to go flying off if I take it all the way.

Found 2 cans of beer in my pool storage. The old man can't drink ni forgot I had it. Nice little bonus while waterproofing my filter with teflon tape.

I've got a spot at the bottom left hand part of the skimmer that has a couple pin sized holes. I should reinforce it but I'm gonna say to heck with it n keep an eye on it n see how it does. Once it goes... I may just go into debt for an inground. Lol

I bought another ball valve n put the 2 new ones on the filter n put my old one back on the waste. This should make it easier to clean n tear down the filter.

Pool is staked. It should be alright tonight. I have 2 on the wall where there is no decking and one on the decking.

Not 100% sure but my gut says do NOT take that nut all the way off! Just back it up making sure to leave a thread or two to be on the safe side.

JB weld will work to fill in those holes. Sand that area so the goop will stick to it.

Pool is staked. It should be alright tonight.
GOOD! Now we will both sleep better tonight! LOL

I ended up having to back the nut the whole way out. Wasnt a springy coil like I thought.

Well... here we go. Lot of work to do. Last pic, it started raining so I sat down to finish my warm beer I found in the basement. My Dad helped me put up this pool. I was thinking about him. Told him I've got a lot of work to do on it. I finished my raindrop soaked cig n went in the house.

P.S. that pad that goes over the sand base is freaking heavy. Ugh.... my trash guys are gonna get a work out.

Not too bad really! Some sanding and rust paint and call it good! That is just what ours looked like when I took our liner for replacement.

We had to cut up the liner and put it a couple of pieces at a time as they refused to take it when I had all of it in the can. They said it was too heavy.

Hi Casey, I really like the look of your old pool liner. Do you have a photo or two of what it looked like when it was full of water? How did you like the look of that liner?
Loved the liner. It's called Portifino. This is last year full sun.

I am done removing the armor pad n have everything up to the driveway! That thing was freaking heavy! I had to cut it in squares and put in trash bags. The garbage guys will not be happy tomorrow. They are going to work for their money. That is a 24'×54" pool liner and a 24' armor pad right there.

You are a beast! And I mean that in the most admirable way :)

I also love your last liner. I went down the rabbit hole today of researching liners today. I had bought an overlap liner because I thought that was my pool's only option, I had no idea I could have got a nice little J hook or beaded one instead! Is replacing a liner after 2 seasons a waste of money? Asking for a friend.

Let's figure out a way to hide the beer in your fridge so you can enjoy cold one!

I'll just go to the gas station for a cold one or 2. I took 6 days off from the :poop:hole. I started taking the wire brush to the wall. My arms are burning already.

As far as a new liner goes... if I want it bad enough, I'll work the hours to buy it.
