Rust Stains All Over Pool

My husband was using steel wool to plug up a hole in our barbecue that was attracting critters and pieces of the steel wool blew all into the pool. Now there are tiny rust stains all over the deep end of the pool. Scrubbing does nothing nor did the addition of the powdered Vitamin C I keep on hand. I tried raising the chlorine above shock level since we aren't swimming this time of year and that didn't do anything either. If it was just one larger stain it would be easier to deal with but these are tiny little speckles all over the bottom of the pool. Any suggestions? We are going to be putting the house up for sale in the spring and it just doesn't look good.

Make a paste of vitamin C using tablets and put it in a sock. Rub the sock around the stained areas to spot treat.

Chlorine will not do anything to rust stains. It takes ascorbic acid or citric acid.

The issue is that all the spots are in the deep end. Neither of us can swim down and hold our breath long enough to rub the spots out. I basically did the AA treatment with a big tub of powdered Vit C and it made no difference either.

Make sure that 100% of the metal is removed and then do a full ascorbic acid treatment.

You might need a stainless steel brush to loosen the stains.

You can do a STAIN SOLUTION #2 – The Copper & Scale Stuff treatment if necessary, but I would avoid it unless nothing elase works because sulfamic acid has lots of problems.

Duct tape the sock to your pool brush to rub it against the bottom.

Did you follow the entire AA process? If you did not lower your FC first, the chlorine neutralized the Vit C.
