Rounding the Corner... Install Completed 7/27/13

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

On with the pics and today's progress... If that's what you want to call it!

Didn't seem like the 3 hours I worked were 3 hours. The time actually flew by and the sun was up before I knew it.

This pic taken when I finished up this morning, right before clean up. It was too hot to continue.

My deepest point is about 25".

And my dumping grounds... I'm not fixing the neighbor's yard til I get the pool up.

I'll be up at 4am tomorrow to pick up where I left off...

I am afraid to ask, I mean no disrespect, but why are you digging a circle around the pool. Are you going to dig out the center after you have completed the circle? I would think it would be easier to keep it level if you just dug all the way across right through the center.

I did it this way to get my perimeter level and done. Once I meet up at the beginning point, I'll cut in again in a 3 ft section and start leveling that until I hit center. It's also easier to dig out if I'm standing in the middle and digging toward what I just leveled. Does that make sense? The dirt just comes off in layers and I'm not struggling to get my shovel in.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

Woke up at 5am n on site soon after with coffee.

Not having to go as deep as I round this corner. Feels like I'm actually getting something done!!!

My goal is to start putting the pool up by the 4th. I don't know if I'll make it but I'm going to play heck to meet my goal! Temps are suppose to come down by Wednesday so I should be able to work through the day. I'm going to work as much as I can today n then off to work.

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

You are kicking butt on the digging. It reminds me of the time I dug out the side of a hill for a retaining wall. The hole was 50' long 3' wide and 4' deep. I dug it all by hand but I was in my twenties back then. Digging is a total body workout. The only better exercise will be swimming in your pool.

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

If I didn't have 3 years of weight lifting behind me like I do, I'd struggle!

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

Just curious what your timeframe is for this, when do you anticipate your first swim....I think I'd need all summer to do this size of job, you've definitely got amazing willpower.

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

I want it filling by the 4th of July.

I'm going to have to put it in reverse... I hit a big rock n can't get around it right now. This corner is more difficult than anticipated!

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

Finally at work where I can kick my feet up and enjoy the AC. Love working by myself where no one says... YOU CAN'T DO THAT! Oh yes I can!

And the rock that stopped me for today. I was too tired to try and dig it out. I'd have to dig below level and around it because it's a decent size and I said, I'm done! I tapped out!!!

I'll get it tomorrow when I go back out at 5am. I heard it's suppose to rain all day Thursday. I hope it does so I can sleep in. I'm beat! I thought it'd be smooth sailing once I headed for that corner and it was until I started digging up several nice sized rocks that played havoc on my level base. When I take the big one out tomorrow, I'm going to shovel some gravel from the driveway into the hole and level off if it. Nothing else I can do without it messing me up. I can't fill it because it's clay. When I shave the ground down, it literally looks like someone shaved a giant piece of chocolate. Gravel is the next best think in my opinion. I'll pack it in with the top of the sledge hammer.

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

Thanks crokett! My hubby said I could use a crow bar too.

Butterfly... I'm beat. So ready for bed but have to wait til 11pm to end my shift and then up by 5am to start the work again.

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

I'm moving the dirt to the bottom of the property and once I get everything done, I'll start regrading the yard with it and plant grass. There was a lot of dirt from the excavation and plenty mor for low spots to be filled in. My whole summer is going to revolve around the back yard and fixing the neighbor's yard.

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

No work today. It rained all last night turning the site into a thick, goopy, clumpy mess. I can't even walk across the site withought it sticking to my boots.

So I'll clean the house and do some weed wacking.

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

No. The pool will sit atleast 4 ft away from the slope and since it is a 54' wall, I don't need a fence by law. Anything less than 48" will need a fence.

Since starting the leveling process, I have thought and thought and thought and I'm going to stay with the crusher for a number of reasons which include but not limited to: drainage, raising the pool, clay is not a good base to set a pool up on, it cuts my digging down!!!

No fences here. I have 2 things to pass on my permit.

#1 is having a safety ladder
#2 is having a dedicated GFCI

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

I was talking about the property line where the stump is located. Looks like a good spot for a fence. You must be friendlier in PA than we are here in MA. In my area good fences make good neighbors.

Re: Rounding the Corner to a New Pool Build

My neighbors on that side are very nice! :-D She's so nice that she cuts half my yard when she pulls the mower out and when hubby gets to it before she does, he cuts half of theirs!

All joking aside, we will be buying evergreens down the road to block out passer bys and keep the peepers at bay. :goodjob:

ETA that even if I wanted to fence that in, I can't. Our driveway is a right away to their property and 2 other houses. I can not block them from using it by law.
