Ripples or wrinkles caused by who knows what.

Here’s a little mystery I’m trying to figure out. My AGP is I think 5 years old. After opening this year I noticed these ripples in the floor of the liner. They all run roughly the same direction. They weren’t there when closing last fall. I’m in Oklahoma and we’ve had some earthquakes in the past year. Strong enough that I had lots of Sheetrock joint tape peel off my walls. Strong enough that it woke me up one morning. Could that cause this wrinkling?

It appears to me that the earthquake caused these by soil settling underneath and/or water reaching that surface. I would think the only way to correct this is to empty the pool. Maybe someone else will chime in from that area. Have you spoken to any other neighbors or people that live nearby with an AGP to see if they experienced the same problem?

As per Jason's recommendation, leave a foot of water in the pool and try to smooth out.

I’m in a rural area and there are none near me. I may call the store that installed it and ask if they’ve had any calls with the same issue. So you think empty the pool and remove the liner? Or try to smooth it from inside it without removing?

At 5 years old, I think if you fully drain the pool, the liner will shrink and tear when you try to refill.

You might be able to drain down to leaving at least a foot in the water and then smoothing it out from inside ... I feel like I saw mention of a plunger before?

As per Jason's recommendation, I would leave a foot of water in pool and try to smooth out. Maybe the liner can be pulled from the side to smooth out. Please keep us posted.

I have seen a video on utube that shows a man using a plunger to get out wrinkles.

We did something similar and it worked. Even with 4-6" of water on the bottom.

Super low pH can cause wrinkles. What is the TA and pH?

Fading accompanies Ph wrinkles and ph wrinkles are a very different shape than these. Those linear wrinkles are a different breed.

Though I’m 99% sure when where it came from,
- when did you get your liner & which company fabricated it?

Fading might be somewhat correlated with low pH wrinkles but low pH wrinkles can happen without fading.

Fading is correlated because the liner is more susceptible to bleaching from chlorine, especially direct contact when the pH is low.

+1 what JamesW said. in 11 years on the forum, fading and low pH have never been tied together that I can remember.

Sorry to have disappeared for a few days. Tomato canning time at my house.
The pH has been a little higher than normal this year. I usually have to do very little to maintain it at 7.5. It has been 7.8 or 8 the last couple of weeks. I add the muriatic acid and it comes down, but seems to go back up within a few days. After I read your post, I went out and looked at my jug of muriatic acid. Sure enough, the date is last years, though I bought it this year. Don’t know how I missed that, but I did. But still, it’s high rather than low. Could that have anything to do with the wrinkles? The TA. It started at 40. I’ve got it up in the 80-90 range at the moment.

“LINER 24RD 52 BEAD SOLONA”
Google says SOLONA is manufactured by Kafko

In addition to the wrinkling, we are now trying to determine if there is a leak. Had a small damp area for about a week. No rain, not near the skimmer, return jet, or any hoses. No rusty places, holes, or bulging. Seems to be gone since yesterday.

Thank you, that is the sheet material I suspected.

Sonoma is not manufactured by Kafco - it is fabricated by & branded / nicknamed by Kafko.

Many liner fabricators use the same sheet good.
