Ripples in plaster; sun shelf, with light on

Hello all, seeking feedback. Short history, had a pool built in 2019, we’re located just outside Austin, TX, that was impacted by the ASR (concrete cancer). Was able to get settlement to rebuild.

One change we made was adding a light to the sun shelf. We didn’t like how the pool would be nice and lit up, but sun shelf would be dark. Performing the start up this evening and turned the light on and you can see all the little ripples and slight unevenness that you can’t see during daytime or without the light on.

Is this normal since the light is so low as opposed to the body of the pool? Or should we expect a smoother finish?
And no, we didn’t do lights in the bubblers. In hindsight, that would probably be better in the sun shelf.
Since we didn’t have a light on the prior pool, we don’t have a comparison.

Just turn on the bubblers and you will not see any thing on the plaster LOL.......................yeah you cannot judge the quality of a plaster job at night with the light on. Plaster is applied by hand and as such will not be smooth as glass.

Yes, this finish looks normal for a reef step being illuminated so close to the finish plaster.

Perfect is an illusion. Lay a flashlight flat on any wall in your house at night, or your driveway, patio, etc. Every imperfection will light up like Christmas when it always seemed perfectly flat/smooth.

For pools, we call it 'character' so we feel better about it, and all pools have their own uniqueness.

It even affects us vinyl people.
