You know the sad thing though.........

Almost all of us (myself at the head of the list) was all this confused when it came to pool care. Running around in circles listening to anybody and everybody who came up with ANY "fix" that would address our problems. I can't picture the stress the people in charge are feeling down there even if they are making major blunders time after time.

And when I was learning how to take care of my own pool, I only had a few nosy neighbors watching....not the WHOLE WORLD!

I whole-heartedly agree, there was a time pre-TFP when I was quite frustrated and embarrassed over my green pool.

But, I was not hosting a global event at the time either, so it was OK to "learn as I earn" and make a few mistakes along the way.

Has this (algae bloom) ever happened in any other high-profile water events?

Womens diving on locally right now... that pool looks terrible! You can't even see the steps on the exit... blue by wednesday...smh

I had just had my parents over for a swim and even they commented on the diving pool looking awful.

Is it possible that the chemical/bacteria levels were 'safe to swim in' as they were reporting?

It looks better today, but still very cloudy. Makes it hard to watch the diving and synchronized swimming.

I wouldn't trust what they said, but I don't know for sure.

What I do know for sure, is if someone invited me to their pool for a swim and it looked like
that I would not get in it.

Another idea on the green color. Copper algaecide + CYA + hyperchlorination = green. Thoughts?

Says here Log In - The New York Times that a worker mistakenly added hydrogen peroxide to the pool, which neutralized the chlorine in a way that the chlorine sensors could not detect.

As if he could see anyone drowning. I remember seeing all these memes about Olympic lifeguard being the most useless job, but if you can't see people underwater, it is even more so.
