Revised design

So I orignally posted a few months back the draft design that I liked. Based on the feedback I got here I revised to make the pool bigger and to do more research.

Pool
16x30
5 retrurns
1 return for bubbler (running of pool pump)
2 skimmers
1 drain with dual cover
3 or 4 deck jets (running of pool pump)
SWG
3 LED lights
Heater
DE Filter

7x8 Spa
6 spa jets running on its own 1.5hp pump
1 drain with dual covers
1 LED light

Some questions that I have are:
- Are 5 returns to many for pool and is the location addecuate?
- Should I keep 2 skimmers and what should be the location for them?
- I’m inclining into a Pentair VS pump. Thoughts?
- Is there a SWG system from a specific manufacturer that is better than another? I’ver erad that none of the big manufactureres are great at them.
- I would like be able to control everything from my tablet or cell. I’ve been going back and forth between aqualink and pentairs intellicenter but neither has me convinced. Is there a different automation equipment out there that is the clear winner?

As far as the pool equipment size I will calculate as soon as I determine the location and amount of the return and skimmers.

Y,

No matter which automation system you decide to use, it is always best to buy the same brand of equipment. The Automation, the Salt cell, and the VS pump must be able to talk with each other.

It is never a good idea to try and mix and match brands.

I have three Pentair EasyTouch automation systems with the Pentair IC40 salt cells and the Pentair IntelliFlo pumps.. I love them... I admit I am highly biased, but if one of them died today, I'd have a replacement system on my porch tomorrow...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Just saw your original post. I too am in the Houston area and looking to do a OB pool. We are building our "forever" home, my wife is the builder, and we have been getting bids that are crazy high. Thinking of going OB to save money and get a better pool in the process.

What part of town are you building in? We are just north of Conroe.

Thanks Jim.

I’ve seen that recommendation here before and was my initial approach but saw on another forum a different recommendation.

Do you have 3 diffferent pools? Why do you have that many systems?

Thanks for the help and ive been able to find info on easytouch but not much on intellicenter.

Y,

I have three pools because I am cursed... :p Actually, I have a couple of rent houses with pools.

The rent house pools were standard chlorine pools and both had older equipment which kept breaking. I found myself constantly having to maintain them. To solve that issue, I installed the Pentair systems I have today.

The third system is for the pool at my house. The only system that has had failure was at my house. My neighbor took a direct hit from a lighting strike which blew his hot water heater apart!! It did a lot of other damage as well.. Lucky me, I got what was left over. It took out the main board in the EasyTouch, and the Protocol Adapter for the ScreenLogic. Not really a Pentair problem, but they replaced both of them under warranty.

I would never have a pool that was not a saltwater pool, as it requires much less "constant" maintenance.

There is a large thread about the IntelliCenter here on TFP.. I have an appointment or I'd find it for you.. Use the search box in the upper right hand corner of your screen.

Thanks,

Jim R.
