Returns are Popping with Pump On Low

I have two returns in my pool. I just installed Infusion venturi jets on both. When running the pump on low (1500 RPM, 20 gpm, 3-4 PSI) I noticed that both returns make an intermittent popping or "burping" sound, and both produce a small amount of bubbles. Clearly, air is coming from somewhere. What's confusing me is that the sound and bubbles go away when I turn the pump up.

For what it's worth:
- We recently had a crushed section of our return line replaced. We tested the pool with the pump on high for about 24 hours and it didn't leak.
- The sound isn't as bad with the Infusion venturi jets removed, but the bubbles are still produced.

Any ideas what might be going on here?

Thanks.

Do you have an air bubble forming in your pump basket when running at 1500 rpm that you don’t have at full speed? How large does that air bubble get?

M,

What you are seeing is somewhat normal for a SWCG pool.. As a by-product the cell makes gas.. Depending on the pump speed and the plumbing you can hear the noise as the gas escapes into the pool.. It is nothing to worry about.

Thanks,

Thanks, everyone! I'm familiar with the SWCG bubbles. Until we had the crushed return line replaced, I was running aboveground plumbing and noticed bubbles being produced anytime the SWCG was running. Now that we're back to underground plumbing, I guess the SWCG gas is building up in the underground line someplace and then "burping" out all at once (these sounds happen about every 10-15 seconds from both returns vs. the constant bubbles with the aboveground plumbing). I need to pay closer attention to see if it only happens when the SWCG is running.

Also, no bubbles in the skimmer, but our pump does get the bubble under the lid at low speed.

Again, thanks!
