Replacing Pool Plumbing

Hello TFP'ers

My pool plumbing is in need of replacement. Its currently being held together with JB Weld and luck. I was wondering if I could get your advice on new equipment before I buy?

The current setup:

1. Inground 10,000 Gallon Fiberglass pool 1.5" piping
2. Sta-Rite Dura-Glas 1HP Pump @ 230 volt.
3. Sta-Rite T-240BP-1 Sand Filter
4. Manually adding Chlorine

For the future setup, I'd like to move to a salt water generator, with a variable speed pump to save on electricity, chlorine costs, and maintenance. I've got my eye on a Pentair 1.5 HP SuperFlo VS pump. For the SWG, a Pentair IntelliChlor IC20. At this time, I was going to keep the current sand filter for a while longer as it seems to be functioning alright. In the future maybe move to a cartridge filter?

All that said, I'm a little puckered up at the cost. Should I go with the Pentair? Or might another, cheaper brand work well enough? Will these components work well together?

Though it is an old model, that DuraGlass pump is an excellent pump.
For about half the price of a new VSP you could get a 1.5hp (2.25thp) rebuild kit (PP1018, $130 - $150), that has all the internal parts needed.

By going to a larger horsepower you can turn the rpm down and save even more in electricity.

For even less, InyoPools.Com still seems to have a supply of the Century V-Green ECM165SQU motors (about $600.00) that would bolt to your existing wet end and use your time clock. A very good motor. You would need a new shaft seal (PS100), diffuser and body O rings to complete the job (possibly a seal cone as well, or a PS200 seal).
