I am going to replace my old AO Smith pump with a pentair superflo vs 1.5 HP pump.

Pentair SuperFlo VS 1.5HP Variable Speed Pool Pump (342001)

I am also going to plumb in a flowvis flow meter.

My question is how to start from where the water inlets are. The original plumbing doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room. I'll attach two pictures which should highlight the dilemma.

What's the best way to attack this project. I want to get opinions before I start hacking away.

That's a tricky one. You don't have much room to do anything.

I think that I would try unscrewing the pump pot from the plumbing.

Remove the 4 bolts that secure the pump pot to the pump and unscrew.

Be careful not to over torque the plumbing.

So the pump pot just screws into the pvc connection? That is great to know!

Also, any idea what purpose the faucet head above the pump serves?

The fitting should be screwed into the pump pot. Hopefully, it will unscrew easily.

The faucet is to allow draining if the pool gets too full or you can use waste on the multiport.
