Replacing my Pump

I have an old 2HP PurexTriton WhisperFlo pump for my filtration pump for a 16,000 pool. I am looking to replace this soon with a Pentair WFE-24 WhisperFlo Up-Rated Energy Efficient 1HP Pool Pump after reading so many threads on pump downsizing. I would just like to get a fews opinion of this pump and affirmation that dropping to 1HP is okay. Thanks in advance

A 1 hp pump is perfectly adequate for a 16k pool. Downsizing as you are will save you some dollars in energy costs as well.

I strongly recommend getting a two speed pump. Low speed can save you a lot of money on electricity. Also the SuperFlo line is more energy efficient than the WhisperFlo line, so perhaps this one, 1 HP dual speed SuprFlo.

My timer is just a basic timer and will not control a two speed pump. Are there two speed pumps with a control switch on the pump?
