replacing Hayward return SP1408 - Leaks

Hi
This is my first posting. I am replacing the return lines in my IG pool. Old lines were fully compromised. Cut concrete and replaced 1 return successfully using Flex 1 1/" PVC with no issues. The problem I am having is getting the old one out through the liner. I did succeed with a little stretching. I am now trying alternate ways of placed the new one OVER the liner and through the wall. It leaks on opposite wall. Its a small leak (droplets) but enough to force me to try alternate methods to suppress leak. Do I have to pull the liner over the return?(like it was) or put a gasket in between return and front of the liner. The SP1408 provides no gasket and sits right on liner. I am using "REAL-TUFF" for the threading's

I hope I described this well enough. I'm draining pool now to see if I can pull liner over the return (as it was originally)

Any help or suggestions are appreciated

Thanks
Richard

There should be a gasket between the faceplate and fitting. The fitting mounts to the pool wall behind the liner, then you install the faceplate over the liner. Once the faceplate is installed you cut the opening in the liner.
