I think I need to replace my cartridges for my Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 520 filter. It looks like there are other non Pentair cartridges that would fit as well. Of course they are less expensive. Does anyone have any good or bad experience with the off brand ones? can anyone recommend one they have used? Or should I spend the money and get the Pentair ones?

Have you tried cleaning them? The cartridges should last many years.

If you really need them, Filbur, Pleatco, UniCel, Optimum are good brands. They also have a better warranty than OEM.
Try a good chemical cleaning before replacing.
A search for filter cleaner will give you many options. You want something that you can use to soak overnight. There are some you spray on, but overnight is better.
