I am currently looking to replace my 13 year old pool pump. Looking to eventually add an automatic system so I can control the pump from my phone. Please see attached photos of the current pump. Would appreciate some advice for what pump should I purchase. I have 100sq inch filter will 50k gallon pool. Thanks

Great pump.

Pentair only warranties DIY install for 60 days. So we suggest you consider getting the extended warranty through Amazon if you plan to install DIY.

Not 100% certain, but I know Hayward, even with the Amazon warranty, there is always a glitch. The Asurion Warranty will only start after the manufacturers warranty. Most manufacturers will not cover the product if installed by the homeowner, and maybe 60 days. This leaves a gap of 10 months to 1 year. The website is not very specific regarding terms and conditions, so it is best to call Asurion and obtain something in writing. We need to be certain that they do not deny a warranty claim if not installed by a licensed pool contractor.

I purchased my own pump on line. It leaked. Warranty not covered by Hayward if homeowner installed. Sent back without problems. Called my friend in the business. It cost $125 more and I have the 1 year warranty by Hayward. For me, it was just not worth getting a replacement and no warranty from Hayward for this amount, but depending on the area you live in, the cost savings may be a lot more. I have seen some pumps costing $1,000 for installation, in where the pump on line is $449 shipped to your door, which is quite a difference.

Interesting. Some forum members purchased the Amazon extended but none have come back with any issues. Of course, it is very likely the pump has had no issues as that Pentair pump is one of the most reliable VS pumps.

I know the members that purchased the extended warranties said they checked with the company and stated they were covered. But each member should do their own due diligence.

1.0 out of 5 stars ASURION Protection Plan for POOL PUMPS A NO ByEWGon May 14, 2018

I'm about to purchase a Hayward Pool Pump/Motor, a popup appeared in regards to purchasing an extended 4 year warranty for $21.18 which would start at the end of the Hayward Warranty I thought this was a great deal. So I called Asurion NO they do not cover Pool Pump/Motors. So it proves to me call before you buy insurance.

I am on hold with Amazon/Asurion/Canopy. Hopefully they will answer the phone quickly to determine if these warranties are really valid. In addition, I believe Pentair offers a 3 year warranty, but I do not know about the validity of this is a consumer installs without a pool professional.

Asurion Lawn Garden Extended Protection Plan 4 Year

UPDATE: As I typed, they picked up the phone. The CR told me to call Asurion. What a messed up warranty company. If someone has any information on this type of warranty for a homeowner installation on a pool pump, please post as this would be helpful information.

Pentair only offers a three year warranty if you purchase three Pentair items from one of their suppliers and they install it.

I installed a Intelliflo VS pump a few days ago. I bought it off amazon and installed myself. I too purchased the Asurion 4 yr plan. I found this on the amazon website last week . I have yet to receive the paperwork on the warranty, So I will have to call them about the paperwork.

Q: If i buy a pentair intellifo pool pump and install it myself which gives me 90 days manufacture's warranty, will asurion then cover me for the rest?

A:
Thank you for your question. Pool pump are an eligible product for coverage. Plan term and coverage begins at the end of the manufacturer's labor warranty. If you have additional questions, please call us at 1-866-551-5924.

Please get back to us with specific details. As you can see, I picked up a post on Amazon that contradicts the warranty claims that you picked up as well. I would be curious to know if there is a gap between the 90 days and the 3 years manufacturer warranty? What exactly does it mean, that "Plan term and coverage begins at the end of the manufacturer's labor warranty"? In addition, I would really want to know what exactly they would cover, who you would have to ship it out to, etc.?

Once I had an extended warranty for a portable navigation system (which I still have, but really do not use), which was Asurion from Wal-Mart if I remember correctly. It took exactly 2 months to get the product back. They paid for shipping on the warranty claim.

Now, if they honor the warranty, how long will it take before one gets the pump back? Is the shipping out and back at no charge? If the pump goes out in the middle of the summer, this could also cause issues. Too many unanswered questions.

Personally, I would purchase the warranty myself. With Hayward, the warranty was completely VOID from day one if I installed it, let alone the warranty from Asurion.

Thanks for the info, ordered the pump and my installer says that I should only run it max 2000 rpm because the pressure would be to high if I ran it at the full 3 hp. My pool is a 23x50 with 2inch pvc lines. I have 3 returns with a booster pump for the Polaris. Also 2 skimmers. Anyone know if the installer knows what he is talking about?
