Replace T-15 with T-9 or T-5?

I need to replace my t-15 and want to use Hayward rather than risk low grade aftermarket.
T-15 is rated for 40,000 gallons and costs about $900.
T-9 and t-5 are rated for smaller pools and are considerably cheaper.
My pool is closer to 10,000 gallons. Can I use the t-9 or t-5?
My controller is about 12 years old and is an aqua trol GLX-PCB-TROL-HP

Hi there-

You'll want the T-9 cell. You want to go at least 2x your pool's volume. This allows you the most chlorine for longer life. My first cell lasted 9 yrs (at 3x the size of my pool).

The price increase for salt cells is crazy! Last year the Hayward T15 was going for $650.

The Aquatrol comes with a T-5 cell.

If you have a T-15 cell then someone soldered a jumper onto J4.

To restore it to a T5 cell the J4 jumper needs to be removed.

Those are your only two cell choices.
