Ive got a Pentair FNS and the pressure gauge just doesnt work. Its yellow and tapping on it causes the pressure to go way up.

I had my filter completely cleaned on Friday and have been running it 24/7. I know the pressure has gotten to where I need to backwash (or something else is totally wrong) as I cant get enough water pressure to get my waterfalls running. Also the leaves are not being pulled down in my skimmer.

I am looking to replace the pressure gauge - but is there any advantage to replacing the entire assembly (something like this Amazon.com ) or if I should just get a replacement gauge

If the relief valve is working, just get a gauge.
Recommend a liquid filled gauge that reads 0 - 30 psi. No need for a 0 - 60 psi gauge.

If your filter was cleaned on Friday and return flow was good - but return flow has diminished greatly in a few short days, you likely have a chemical issue.

What test kit are you using? Test Kits Compared
How do you chlorinate your pool?
Suggest doing an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

Oh I have a real big algae problem now. My pump stopped working while I was on vacation.

I'm taking over my pool chemistry from a service and don't have a test kit yet (tf-pro on the way)

While waiting on your TF-Pro to arrive, add 5 ppm of liquid chlorine daily to keep the algae from getting worse.
Use PoolMath and your pool volume to determine how much liquid chlorine that is.
