I drained my heater but maybe my error was I put the drain plug back in after draining. End result leak in my heat exchanger.

Video

My serial number is: (21) 131009103705001. Not sure if you can determine age from SN? Better to replace heat exchanger looks like $700 or replace the whole unit $3000+

Appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks!

Thanks for your advice! I was going to try and do it myself with my dad. My dad is pretty handy and he was going to take a look at on the weekend. Is there an option to "cut in" to where the leak is and weld it shut?

I am guessing a grinding wheel to cut in might cause more cracks.

All of the firetile insulation panels will begin to fall apart now that they are wet.

It's also likely that the burner tray is compromised.

If you want to spend $700 plus and risk wasting the money when the heater is ultimately deemed unsalvageable, that's up to you.
