My Pentair 1 hp pump started whining and appears to be dying - it's almost 10 years old. Am looking to replace with the same pump but for an additional $30 - $40, would it be wise to upgrade to a 1.5 hp? Pool owner for only a few years so not pump savy. Handy hubby will be doing the replacement. Thanks for any input! In a time crunch - have about 50 folks for Solar Eclipse Pool Party on Monday!

Most likely only need a replacement electric motor.

A two speed will save you a bit of electricity if it matters. I would be careful upping to a larger single speed without analyzing your filter and piping system. May be too high of flow from the larger pump for your system.

Good luck.
