We have a 20 year old Jandy heater that is going through hot surface ignitors about every 3 months. We’ve had 2 professionally replaced and one we did ourselves. It’s getting expensive. Is there an easy fix for going through them this fast or is it time for a new heater?

Welcome to TFP.

What model heater?

20 years is a good life for any pool heater.

Gotta understand what is happening to the igniters. You have pics of ones that failed?

Probably time to replace by when we end this discussion.

That usually means there is a small leak inside the heater, just enough to get the ignitor damp, but not enough to show up as water somewhere. The heat in the firebox can evaporate a small leak before it gets out of the cabinet.
Also, a check of the voltage being supplied to the ignitor needs to be done. It should be between 102V and 132V. Too much and it will go out.

It is a Jandy lite2. Here is the igniter we just removed. it may have broken off when we removed it, but it was definitely scorched

The voltage is 118. I’m guess a leak is not worth fixing, correct?
