I’m trying to decide if I should remover my skimmer weir when I winterize my inground pool. I haven’t done so in the last few years, but have seen articles saying you should.

Any thoughts on if and why I should remove it or not?

Thanks
Rich

Don't.

Trying to remove the weir door can break a tab or pin and cause more problems.

My weir doors were missing on mine but I found one in a bucket last year. When I tried to install it, the tab broke. So I’d be on the “if it ain’t broke…” side. I bought two new doors to install here very soon.

As @Newdude says, I remove them. However, I have the type of skimmer that the pin is on the door, and they move easily. Even if I break the tab, I can get a replacement. If you have the type that can break something on the skimmer, leave them. There is not requirement to do either. Do what you are comfortable with and how your weir doors work.

This sounds like the doors I have.
