refill how to open

How to properly refill an inground plaster pool that holds 10000 gallons and in our area where calcium hardness is 500ppm generally?
I live in Southern NM right above El Paso TX, so temps will be 100 in about a week. Thanks for any help. Beth

Welcome to the forum.
So is this a new fill or did you drain it for some reason? Do you have a proper test kit? Do you have a whole house water softener?

Thank you; I appreciate your reply but just noticed it ...too late. I refilled (no water softener) due to high CC after removing winter cover.

Because of higher iron levels over the past few years, in city water, I put a sock over the end of the hose used to refill. It turned orange.
The forum helped. Water chemistry was pretty good: 7.7 PH, 250 Hard water, 125 Alkilinity and of course 0 FC & TC & stabilizer.
I added a pint of acid and following forum suggestions.... a hosiery sock filled with 2 lbs stabilizer (to begin with) in the skimmer basket, and a gallon of 10 % bleach with filter
running till I hit target readings.

I have had a pool for years but haven't had to drain and refill for years, so I appreciate your help!

Great. When you refill due to evaporation, use the softened water when possible.
