reduce or block the water flow from UWF

Hi everyone,

my pool has four returns: 1 for the spa, 1 dedicated line for polaris, 2 eye ball jet.

I recently bought a poolskim too help me with all the leaves (pool is surrounded by big trees). So I took one eye ball jet out , and installed the poolskim. I put my extra UWF with a red disc in the return for spa so the flow from there is now minimal. The other eye ball jet is stuck right now so I can't reduce the flow from that, also it is directing a lot leaves to the existing pool skimmer, so I'm happy about and don't want to reduce it.

But the poolskim (which was installed on the far end from the existing skimmer) is not really doing a lot due to pressure loss from the 1 eye ball jet and 1 polaris line. The polaris line has a UWF with a blue disc in it, is there anything I can use to block this line when I'm not using the pool cleaner? something like a quick disconnect but allows no water flow ?

I do not have a Polaris and had to look up Universal Wall Fitting (UWF)..

Assuming you just plug the UWF into the port in the pool wall, I would buy another UWF and either make a solid disc or modify an old disc to make it solid..

Thank you for the reply, since I need to use the polaris about twice a week, I would like to have a more flexible solution that I can put it on/off easily. I imagined the "universal wall fitting" should be able to fit to a series of accessories including a "no flow" cap. But I can't find such a ting!

The picture of the UWF that I saw appeared to just plug into the wall port.. If you had one that allowed no flow and one that was attached to your Polaris hose, it would be a simple matter of unplugging one and plugging in the other.

I suspect I am butchering the answer here in that I don't have a Polaris.. If you can tell me what I am missing, or post a couple pics, maybe we can come up with a better answer.

We have so other members that are pretty sharp, I suspect they have yet to see your post..

What model Polaris cleaner do you have? Does your Polaris have a boost pump?

If your Polaris is a pressure cleaner with a booster pump, turn that pump off. You'll still be getting significant flow through the UWF. Jim's suggestion was what I was thinking - get another Polaris quick disconnect and, instead of using the red or blue flow restrictor, use a solid disk which will cut off most of the flow from that return. You may have to cut one yourself from plastic or vinyl but that shouldn't be too difficult.

It worries me to block off the cleaner return if the OP has a booster pump attached to it with a timer. Or even without a timer I worry what will break if the booster pump is turned on while the return is blocked. It would be a setup waiting for some unknowing person to throw the wrong switch.

Now I''m actually hesitating on blocking that return because I find the pipes are dripping water (maybe one drop per min) after I significantly reduce the water flow from my spa return. As I said, I put a UWF with a red restrictor on it and it significant increased the water flow from the other returns. It is what I want but maybe put too much pressure to the system? I worried that if I completely block the return line for polaris, it would make things worse. Is this possible?

I am not sure which pipes you say have the drip.

As I posted above, my concern is if you fully block that return and somehow the booster pump turns on you will damage something.

Well you have a leak and leaks never fix themselves. increasing the pressure in the pipe can loosen things further.

THX! I guess I'll have someone to look at the leaking pipes before increase the pressure of the system
