Recommendations for a new automation system?

Our pool automation system (Hayward/Aqualogic) seems to have stopped working for good so we are looking to upgrade to a more modern system. Our salt-cell is also due for replacement so we are not tied to a brand. What are your recommendations for a non-dealer installed system that a local electrician could help us install? Any brand models you can recommend? Our pool has a pump, a heater, a salt-cell, and lights. Wifi control would be nice but it is not necessary. Thanks!

Pentair Intellicenter is very popular.
@Jimrahbe may be helpful here .

Seakayaker, would you please set up a Signature Line <found under Settings> describing your pool, size, finish, equipment in use currently, how you sanitize and how you test.
Thanks.

S,

The main rule about automation is that the Automation system, the VS pump, and the SWCG should all be the same brand so that they can "talk" to each other.

I'm a Pentair kind of guy, but Hayward and Jandy are all about the same.

I am also a firm believer in the bigger is better rule. You can never go too big with VS pump, SWCGs or cartridge filters.

The main problem right now is that demand has out-stripped supply and almost everything is impossible to find.

I currently have a Pentair EasyTouch automation system that has an internal SWCG power center, IC40 salt cell, 3 HP IntelliFlo VS pump, and CCP-520 cartridge filter. So far it has been the perfect choice.

That said, if I were to build a new pool today, I would go with the new IntelliCenter instead of the EasyTouch. The two automation systems are similar, but the EasyTouch is a black and white alphanumeric system, while the IntelliCenter is color and uses a touch screen like your phone. The ET has a max of 12 schedules, the IC has a max of 100. The IntelliCenter is just an all-around better system for about the same money.

If there is any downside to upgrading the equipment pad, it is a good chunk of change to do it all at once.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Just a caveat. Unless an electrician is very familiar with all aspects of pool operation, they are not the ones you want to install your automation. You need a true pool electrician. In my area I personally know of three electricians that can wire a pool correctly, that's virtually all that they do and they are excellent at it, but they still can't setup automation. Correctly wiring from the main panel to the equipment pad is very different from setting up the equipment.
