Recommend me a dishwasher

Here is one thread I can really shine. My job is a certified maytag repairman and service center. I am Not however biased to maytag..I am a firm believer in giving good, credible advice on appliances. anyway..you do NOT want to buy a Meile or Bosch..these are my two biggest service calls..AND the worst part is, parts have to be ordered form over seas. I currently have a customer who has a BOSCH and we've been waiting on the part now for over a month...and this is for expedited delivery. So...I will say, they are good UNTIL they break..then you are gonna WAIT AND WAIT for repair parts.

Next do NOT buy GE, Friddgidaire..they are Crud..do not clean and break down alot.

Your best bet is the newer Maytag Steam clean dishwasher. They are fairly quiet..not as quiet as Bosch..but clean AND DRY your dishes. Heavy dirt setting with steam and sanitize cycle will run almost 3 hours, but again the dishes ARe clean and sanitized. They also have a stainless steel washtub, and rubber coated racks..so they don't get all nasty and rusty insider as easy. You can also put cookie/pizza trays in this lower rack.

ANYWAY..THATS MY TWO CENTS. just don't buy into th bells and whistles..and DO NOT go by consumer reports for this issue. Read the forums on consumer reports and you'lll see what I mean...they really messed up on their dishwasher ratings

Who calls a maytag guy to service their miele? Parts can be a problem with anything.

No question Miele.
The miele dishwasher is "the goods", and with three separate racks/silverware rack- has more capacity than any other on the market.

If you dont have the bucks for a miele get a bosch.

Are you familiar with the european vs american basic design diffs and operational tradeoffs?

Let me clarify for Dave a bit. I am certified to do repairs on maytags...I am a brand source service center..so I service all makes, and models of dishwasher. 2nd..Meile most certainly does NOT have more capacity than any other. That status currently goes to an LG dishwasher...I don't have the model # in front of me at the moment however.

And when you say parts are no harder to get than any other..how do you know? do you order dishwasher parts on a daily basis? I do. Bosch and Miele are the two hardest to get parts on the market today. LG comes in third, but are getting much better.

Again, I DO think Miele and Bosch make nice machines..but the fact that parts are very expensive, the machines are expensive, and it takes forever to get the parts..in my book, makes them a bad buy. The old adage of "you get what you pay for" does not come into play here. There are $500 and $600 machines out there that clean much better than $1500 units.

So what would you recomment in my price range. I would like something that defintely dries my dishes and does a good job in cleaning. Volume to me is not that important, as anywhere conversations are taking place are in a whole other room.

Thanks.

As was stated by someone above, the absolute BEST thing you can do is check consumer reports. They test dishwashers frequently, and it will be easy to see which models fit your needs and which models have bells and whistles that you don't care about.

Quick note: Before I was a pool guy I ran a very high end hardware and appliance store. I took back way more GE, Maytag, KitchenAid, etc. dishwashers than I ever did Bosch (we did not handle Miele, but I know the quality). In fact, I don't ever remember taking a single Bosch back.

I have owned Bosch dishwashers for over a dozen years, and have never had a single problem. I would buy another one tomorrow (of course I don't have to, it's a Bosch!) and not think twice.

Good luck on whichever unit you settle on!

Mynewpool- if under 600 is the range Miele is not for you. Look at Bosch IMO

Thanks for clarifying Dan. Question- Have you been miele certified? If not then do you order parts directly or do you 2 step them?

How do I know? Because I have a great relationship with miele as a vendor (Id say better than you - unless you can show me you own more of their product than I do) - have multiple products from them and have had them serviced.

I have a housefull of miele products,so I feel Im better qualified to comment on them than most and I have reviewed all of them honestly and publicly (see links below). Almost all have been great, the vacuum is a real pain.

I've had zero problems with the dishwasher so I cant comment on that, I had to wait a month and a half for a parts on a clothes washer once because I did not want to buy a "package deal", and the other part I need was in the servicemans truck. This wasnt a huge problem because it wasnt "down".

Heres my comprehensive review of the miele 851 and other miele products I own.

Dude, you paid $1,200.00 for a vacuum?! I can see it for something that does the work for me (like a dishwasher), but for something I have to drag around?!

Just messin' with you :-D I hate cheap!!!

For under $800 and a tad over $600 I suggest a Whirlpool GU2475XTVY 24in Fully Integrated Dishwasher with 6 Automatic Cycles and stainless steel interior or the Kenmore Elite. they will clean every bit as good as the $1000+ machines like Bosch, Miele, Dishlex, Fisher and Paykel, electrolux, etc.

You want something with Stainless interior, as it has now been proven that SS dry's quicker than plastic interiors. Also, either of the above have built in water filtration, and solid food disposal system, which even the Miele does not...you have to clean it out by hand on occasion. Both have large dish racks and adequate space between dishes. Again the Miele creates MORE room inside by actually moving all of it's dish tines closer together. so you get no more actual room inside, just more dishes squished more closely together.

both of these machines are quiet and you can watch TV in the same room without issue. These are my two recommendations on your budget.

Couple points of clarification here.

The European machines all have a filter vs a grinder. This allows more room on the inside of the unit.
The euro units have a longer cycle as well, but usually use less water.

The tradeoff is that the filter must OCCASIONALLY be emptied- I havent touched mine in over 5 months, and when you do need to clean it it takes seconds and is laughably easy.

Machines configured this way actually DO have more room in them.
and only the miele has a third tray for silverware. All the place settings in the world do you no good if the washer cant actually clean them
Maybe someones copied the third tray now, but last I checked it was a miele exclusive.

Ill take this tradeoff everyday.

Ill also forgoe a filter (I see no burning need to filter water from my tap I drink out of 50 time a week) for heating coil UNDER the filter so plastic Items dont get warped touching an exposed element.

There is only one thing wrong with the Miele. I forget how long has Miele been in business?

The price.

Dave

actually there are several models that have the 3rd tray for silverware. I don't know the model off the top of my head, but Whirlpool has one, Kitchenaid has one model KUDT03FTSS and I believe there are a couple of others as well.

Can you find a pict? with a grinder there must not be much room at all for the racks.

I see a description of it still having a basket, but also a culinary "rack".

Where does it go? Is it removeable?

Dave

Here are two I am pondering right now. Also needs to have an adjustable upper rack. Both of these have the adjustable rack. The whirlpool has nylon plastic as to where the kitchenaid has SS. The kitchen aid has a 5 year warranty and the whirlpool has a 1 year warranty I believe. The whirlpool I would have to get at Conns and I just do not like the shopping experience at Conns but this is about the product. Lowes has the kitchenaid and I can price match with sears to get it at that price. They both seem to have a good amount of options. I like the whirlpool one that I can put the silverware rack on the door, but then I have read sometimes they do not get as clean. The kitchenaid seems to have some perks with it with holders and stuff but mainly being SS. One thing I like about the whirlpool is it cleans the top and bottom at different times. therfore getting better pressure. I like Lowes becuase they have free delivery. Decision decision as I never thought buying a dishwasher could be so touch. I like the whirlpool as well due to all the controls being on the top and a nice clean look. From what I have said it sounds like I should go with the whirlpool, but which one would be the best bang for the buck. I like the SS idea as dishes would or should get a lot dryer.

So here are the two I have seemed to narrow it down to and they are the same price or a few dollars off.
